Shrubs - native > Callistemon
I have a row of callistemons that are about 5 years old. Up until a few months ago, they were healthy. However over the last few months they are dying, one-by-one progressing down the row. I have checked and cannot see anything that is eating them or any disease that is visible. I have also dug around the root base and there is nothing there and it is not too moist. Can anyone shed any light on this? Many thanks Robyn
Hi Robyn This a hard one to diagnose. Spreading along a line of plants tends to suggest pests or disease above or below the ground. You may need to dig up on the sickest plant and investigate whats happening around the roots. Other questions: Has anything happened that could have affected the drainage? Has any work been going on close to the trees and chemicals poured into the soil by tradesmen? is it possible that someone would have wanted to poison trees? Are these the only plants affected in your garden? Have any other plants been planted close to the callistemon and could these be competing for light and/or nutrients?
