Rambling Roses are a modern rose e.g. they have been bred from old garden rose varieties.
This is a vigorous rose variety with elegant, arching canes covered in glossy, dark green foliage.
It produces abundant clusters of fragrant flowers that bloom in various colors, adding much to any garden design.
Ramblers tend to produce large sprays of smaller flower heads that are nonetheless still very colourful and striking. They also tend to produce one major flush of flowers per season, unlike climbers that may produce continuing flushes.
Archways, pergolas and trellises are generally used to support them and effort is required in cultivating them to keep them controlled and within the boundaries of the support structures.
Rambling roses are more vigorous than climbers and will scramble up into trees and nearby tall shrubs - as such they need to be controlled as they can get out of hand and messy without a disciplined gardener to keep them in control.
Ramblers are generally tough and resilient, thriving on neglect and being more disease resistant and more able to handle varying levels of direct sun (when compared to climbers).
