The Hawthorn is a small, rounded deciduous tree with glossy, deeply lobed leaves and flat sprays of cream flowers, followed by dark red berries in autumn.
The flowers are hermaphrodite (have both male and female organs) and are pollinated by midges.
It is often grown to attract wildlife.
It is a useful specimen trees for town, coastal or exposed gardens and is particularly good for hedging and screens.
