Tulbaghia violacea or Society Garlic is a vigorous perennial that grows from a bulb-like rhizome in a grassy, clump-forming habit.
Umbels of lilac to white flowers are held above the narrow leaves in loose flower heads that are produced randomly throughout the year but most commonly in late summer and early autumn.
All the parts of this plant give off a strong garlic smell with the rhizomes and leaves being edible.
They go well in rockeries, borders, herb gardens and in containers.
