A frost hardy, low growing, mat forming perennial that thrives under trees creating an attractive carpet of green and silver splashed, triangular foliage.
In summer it produces vibrant spikes of bright red, purple or pink flowers.
It is a member of the mint family and spreads by rhizomes and stolons.
This species is not as invasive as L. galeobdolon.
Varieties include:
"White Nancy" - has vibrant spikes of pure white flowers.
