Liquidambar styraciflua is a slender, upright, deciduous tree that is grown mostly for its splendid profusion of foliage colours in autumn.
The leaves are deeply lobed, glossy and deep green in spring and summer, turning orange, red and purple in autumn.
Small, globular heads of greeny/yellow flowers in spring precede the spikey fruits.
The bark can be quite corky.
This is a medium to large tree requiring plenty of space to enjoy its crown to ground foliage and stately shape.
