Cryptomeria japonica or the Japanese Cedar is a coniferous evergreen tree with graceful mid-green foliage and powerfully columnar or conical shape.
The needles overlap and curve inwards, remaining long and soft. Crinkly brown cones hang from the ends of branches in autumn, followed by the new cones in winter.
In winter the tree turns a dull bronze colour.
They are very hardy and make an attractive ornamental feature in larger gardens and parklands and also work well as screens and hedges if kept trimmed.
