Wombok - Brassica rapa. var pekinensis
This well known sure heading variety accounts for a high percentage of Chinese cabbage grown for
market in the United States. Its upright cylindrical heads average 40-50cm tall and 15cm in diameter
with dark-green leaves and a well blanched interior.
It reaches maturity from 55 to 100 days.
Wom Bok can be grown all year round in Tropical
and SubTropical areas but does best in cooler
conditions and grows all year round in Cool and
Temperate areas as well.
It does not like hot dry conditions.
It is a great addition to a stir-fry or added to salads or soups.
Plant the seeds directly, 0.5-1cm deep in richly composted damp soil for best results.
It can be transplanted from seedlings in cooler areas but is very quick to grow.
Thin plants to 20-30cm apart in rows 30-50cm apart and keep moist to ensure fast uniform growth.
Harvest the outer leaves when they appear readyand cut the mature plant when the head tightens.
