Kale Red Russian is a tender, specialty Kale which is richly flavoured without being overpowering. it is both great in the kitchen and as an ornamental plant too.
It has large, fine, purple veined leaves that are slightly curled and can grow to 40cms long.
This is a fast growing and hardy vegetable which will benefit from a rich soil with plenty of added organic matter and a full sun location.
It can be planted all year round and tolerates frost well - doing better in cooler seasons. This plant it generally pest free.
Sow directly into the soil, adding 2 seeds to the drill every 20-30 cms, then thin out the strongest one if both germinate. Ensure they are well watered until established.
The application of a liquid fertiliser every two weeks will ensure strongest growth.
