These wonderful gardens have been evolving since the 18th Century when the 4th Baronet, Sir Peter Warburton first created them. With the loving care of successive generations of the Warbarton family these gardens are now considered to be ‘Particularly important and of most special interest’ by the National Registry of Historic Parks and Gardens.
The garden consists of eight acres of formal gardens, a well established arboretum and a woodland walk.
Entry to the gardens takes you along the Pleached Lime Avenue. Once in the gardens there are many areas to explore and a surprise around each corner. Don’t miss the double width Herbaceous border, a delight from March to October. Enjoy the Walled Garden, the Kitchen Garden, the Rose Garden and Ilex Avenue lined with Quercus Ilex Columns. Follow the pathways and explore the arboretum and woodland, the walk will take less then 30mins but is not suitable for wheelchairs.
For keen gardeners and horticulturalists there is an opportunity to spend a day with the head gardener and join in with the seasonal tasks. To find out more or book ring 01565 777353 ext 31
For those who don’t have a day to spend, but would like to learn more about the gardens and estate there are tours by Jane Foster, the sister of Lord Ashbrook.
