Carpobrotus glaucescens is an evergreen soft wooded perennial native to coastal regions of Eastern Australia.
It has succulent stems and fleshy three angled leaves. It has a spreading and prostrate habit.
From Spring to Autumn it produces deep purple flowers with satiny petals.
This is a plant that grows well in sand and will tolerate being covered with sand. It does not like shade or poorly drained soil.
Great plant in sandy gardens that get full sun. It grows well and looks good when used as ground cover on sloping sites. Do not plant in areas where people will be walking as it will not survive.
The red-purple berries are edible and said to to taste similar to salty apples.
