Lobelia tupa or Devil's tobacco is a vigorous, upright, evergreen, woody perennial with large grey to green, eliptical foliage.
In late summer and into autumn the long flower spikes emerge, terminating with erect racemes of tubular, double lipped, scarlet flowers. They curve out and downwards, somewhat resembling a flamingo neck and head.
They go well in mixed borders and suit informal garden settings like courtyards, coastal and cottage style due to their open nature.
