Saxifraga umbrosa, commonly known as London Pride or St. Patrick's Cabbage, is an attractive perennial herbaceous plant that contributes well to cottage garden styles.
It typically forms dense rosettes of rounded, glossy, dark green leaves, often with scalloped edges.
It produces 30cms tall stems of pretty, star-shaped, white flowers mid spring to summer.
Its low-growing habit and spreading nature make it ideal for ground cover or edging in garden beds and rockeries.
It is also very useful for filling those deeper shady areas, though it can take any level of shade from bright to dark.
