Cestrum elegans is a fast growing open, vase shaped shrub with arching branches.
The leaves grow along the stems, they are broad lance-shaped have a velvety feel and are mid green in colour. When crushed the leaves release an unpleasant odour so avoid crushing them and wear gloves when pruning the plant.
At the end of the branches dense clusters of tubular shaped, red to purple red flowers are produced from late summer through autumn. The flowers have a slight fragrance.
Prefer full sun but in hotter areas will take some shade. These plants do not tolerate frost or drought.
These ornamental shrubs work well in a mixed border and can be used in large containers.
