The Lime (or Linden) Tree is a favourite street tree in Europe, and especially Britain.
It is hardy to polluted air, sturdy and elegant, highly fragrant when in bloom and a great source of medicinal remedies.
It has alternate, simple, heart shaped leaves and the bark is thick and fibrous.
The flowers are solitary, paired, or borne in clusters and are small, yellowy white and strongly scented.
The dried flowers are used in Europe for making a soothing infusion tea - in France its call Tilleul.
Honey from the flowers is considered the ultimate variety.
N.B. This is a large tree - not for the small to average sized backyard at all.
