Like many cycads, Dioon edule, Mexican Fern Palm is very slow growing which makes it a good choice for pots and patios.
They grow from a single, stout stem that can, with great age, reach 3 metres in height.
Atop the stem is the foliage, which is grey green and linear with many spiny tipped leaflets (the leaves grow to about 1 metre in length).
Like all cycads it produces male and female cones on separate plants
This is an endangered species due to illegal collection and habitat destruction.
