A tall, evergreen conifer with a broad conical habit that, with age, begins to develop a more flattened crown.
It has soft, linear, dark green pine needles emerging in bundles of two or three from sheaths at the base of the leaves. The bark is rough and fissured and breaks off in large plates. A good, large tree, excellent for shade and for habit contrast. N.B. The fallen needles will cause the soil below to become acidic, making it difficult to grow some plants underneath.
