An erect, dense, evergreen shrub with bright green, small, oblong leaves and half-globe rose/pink coloured flowers. They don't mind seaside conditions.
Soil: Slightly acid, well drained loam
Maintenance: A light trim after flowering will keep it tidy - keep lime away from it as it likes acid conditions better.
Toxicity: Toxic to cattle.
Other Species: 80 - 100 species including P. spectabilis with larger pink/yellow flowers and P. linifolia which is quite salt tolerant.
Comments: Name refers to the Greek word 'Pimele' meaning fat, which refers to the oily seeds. It is of the same family as the Daphne.
Author: Bob Saunders.
