Calomeria amaranthoides or the Incense Plant is a tall and gangly biennial shrub-like plant that has large aromatic, sticky leaves that are green on top and whitish underneath.
In late summer and autumn it produces feathery or grassy panicles of thousands of deep red tiny flower heads. Flowers can also be whitish pink, through to pink.
The stems and leaves release a musky odour when brushed - hence its common name, though it can cause slight skin irritation when touched.
It is only marginally frost hardy and goes particularly well after bushfires.
