Abies homolepsis or the Nikko Fir is a large evergreen coniferous tree growing up to 20m tall.
The broad conical or pyramidal shape and whorls of dense branches give the tree a sense of grandeur.
The dark green leaves are closely packed, 'needles' with a blunt tip and a silver band on the underside.
The cones are purple in colour and around 8-9 cms long.
This is a cool climate tree suited to Australian highlands and the cooler southerly states.
These make wonderful feature trees in larger gardens or parklands.
