Sinningia speciosa or Gloxina are tuberous perennials with long, velvety leaves and has short flower stems bearing large, bell-shaped, showy flowers which can be as much as 10cm across.
They come in rich shades of blue, violet, pink or red, usually mottled in the centre.
They make spectacular pot plants, indoors as the flowers collapse if filled with rain.
Their needs are very similar to African Violets, e.g. best kept indoors and humid (though avoid misting as the flowers are very delicate and easily damaged.
