Hoya carnosa is an evergreen twining, climbing perennial.
It has dark green, glossy, elliptical leaves and from late spring to early autumn it bears dense, convex umbels of star-shaped white or pink flowers. Each umbel can be up to 20cms across and contain up to 20 individual flowers.
In the evening the air is filled with fragrance from these night scented flowers.
It is frost tender so in cold climates is only suitable as a house plant.
In warmer climates it can be grown outside.
It will grow epiphytically and can be trained up trees and through branches or over pergolas.
It also can be grown in hanging baskets - where it is perhaps best suited.
