Zingiber zerumbet or Shampoo Ginger is a low growing, rhizomatous perennial that is best suited to tropical and sub tropical regions though can grow in zone 9 (as far south as NSW) if in a protected spot and free of frost.
it produces small creamy-yellow coloured flowers that are located under the bracts of the cones. The cone then turns from a beige colour to red when they are most prized for cut flowers.
Zingiber zerumbet are fragrant and add a tropical touch to any garden while also going well in pots indoors.
A very useful ornamental and even more useful for its medicinal applications.
