The large daisy-like flowers of Helenium autumnale and it's cultivars add colour to perennial borders through late summer and autumn.
The stems are tall and branching with narrow leaves clasping alternately along the stem and terminating in brightly coloured flowers.
Helenium autumnale has yellow 'petals' with dull yellow domed centres. There are many cultivars and these vary in colour from gold yellow to orange to deep crimson, and domed centres that vary from the yellow to brown.
Besides contributing well to a mixed border they also attract butterflies, bees and beneficial insects to your garden.
