Gladiolus communis or the Byzantine Gladioli is a bulbous perennial that produces very showy blooms in spring and summer around 80-100cms tall.
Unlike regular Gladiolus which tend towards fussy extravagence, the Byzantine Glad is much more elegant
They are a perfect plant for mid border with vibrant sprays of sword shaped foliage topped with clusters of up to 15 magenta blooms atop long and slender stalks.
These lovely bulbs require very little water and maintenance, colonizing well to make a strikingly colourful display.
Gladiolus communis make an excellent cut flower and last well indoors.
They make a good accompaniment to Roses and Salvia and suit any informal garden design.
