Tillandsia dyeriana is a visually striking epiphytic plant from a natural habitat of subtropical or tropical mangrove forests.
It has funnel-shaped rosettes of tongue-shaped, pointed, mid green leaves with reddish-brown spots.
In early to mid summer it produces flower spikes topped with long-lasting, waxy, orangey red bracts from which emerge tubular white flowers. However it is the bracts that it is grown for.
This is a beautiful and compact plant that is ideal for bright windowsills, glasshouses or conservatories in cooler climates. It also goes extremely well out doors in warmer climates, attached to a tree trunk or pergola upright - providing that it can enjoy bright shade without exposure to direct sun.
