Cassia fistula is a large spreading tree that can grow to 12m but more commonly grows to 3-6m.
It is a deciduous to semi-evergreen losing most of its large light green pinnate leaves in late winter/early spring just before the flowers appear.
It adds wonderful summer colour to your garden with its mass of pendulous racemes of fragrant, five petalled, yelllow flowers.
These are tropical plants preferring warm sheltered spots and full sun (although they will tolerate some shade).
Wonderful as a feature tree, enjoy sitting under the shade of the golden canopy. Have been used as street trees but have gone out of favour because of leaf and flower drop.
