Adenium obesum or the Desert Rose is a small to medium succulent shrub with a swollen trunk and thick twisted branches.
It tends to grow no taller than 1.5m when cultivated but in the wild may be seen to grow as high as 3m.
Though the blooms are magnificent, this is a rather sparse, branching plant that produces only small quantities of whorls of lanceolate to obovate green-grey leaves.
From spring to mid summer, terminal clusters of the large showy trumpet shaped flowers in shades of white or pale pink with darker pink margins create a wonderful display.
They tend to lose their leaves during drought conditions.
Despite the wonderful flowers it is not recommended for planting gardens with animals and children.
