The Poached Egg Plant, Limnanthes douglasii is a bright, ground hugging annual that is very easy to grow.
Thoughout summer it produces white open cupped flowers with yellow centres. Great for borders and rockeries.
It will tolerate most soils and even thrive in boggy conditions but will easily self-seed, though for most gardeners this isn't a problem.
A key benefit of this plant is that it attracts Hoverflies which in turn feed on aphids, so it is an excellent companion plant, especially alongside vegetables. A good idea is to sow them as an edge to vegetable beds so they provide colour while they do their other valuable work.
Limnanthes also attract bees and will tolerate being walked on therefore can happily grow within a lawn.
