Zelkova serrata or the Caucasian Elm is a magnificent large tree with a wide, spreading crown made up of many erect, crowded branches.
It has a sturdy trunk with smooth grey bark and the leaves are like a small version of those on elms.
The autumn foliage of the Zelkova is quite breathtaking, turning golden yellow and brown before winter.
This is definitely a large landscape tree only but one that rewards generously with seasonal colour.
