Arbutus unedo or the Irish Strawberry Tree is a bushy, evergreen, small tree with scaly dark brown/grey bark and deep green serrated oblong leaves that are pointed at both ends.
It produces racemes of creamy white Lily of the Valley type flowers in late autumn which appear simultaneously with clusters of strawberry like fruits.
These start green, turn yellow then red - providing plenty of welcome colour in winter.
Fairly frost hardy, it grows well in coastal conditions and attracts birds to your garden.
