Taxodium distichum or The Swamp Cypress is a tall, deciduous, ornamental tree of pyramidal habit that is very useful for boggy, even waterlogged spots in the garden.
It has finely cut, light green foliage that turns golden before dropping.
Its bark is deeply fissured and red/brown (this is where it breathes when it has submerged roots) and rounded purple cones.
Elegant and useful - a good combination.
