Morus nigra or the Black Mulberry is an attractive, broad domed, deciduous tree.
It has pendulous, smaller branches and veined, green leaves with downy undersides and toothed outline.
It produces cylindrical, rubbery fruits of red, purple and black that are quite sweet when ripened.
Morus nigra prefers full sun and it will grow in more extreme climates tolerating hot days, periods of drought and frost to -10C
Grown not only for their fruit, Mulberry trees are also used for ornamental purposes. If you want to enjoy their stately shape you will need to allow a lot of space.
N.B. don't plant near a washing line as the fruit stains badly.
